Freed from the Burden of Captaincy, Shanto Could Relaunch His Career

For a while, Najmul Hossain Shanto was seen as one of Bangladesh's brightest young batting talents. Technically sound, mentally composed, and capable of building innings—he was seen as a long-term investment. With promise and potential, leadership responsibilities were handed to him. But with time, it became increasingly clear that the weight of captaincy might have been doing more harm than good to his personal form.

In recent series, Shanto’s performance with the bat came under heavy scrutiny. Many fans and experts pointed out that he looked burdened, often playing under pressure. The dual responsibility of leading the side and maintaining personal form seemed to take a toll on his consistency and confidence.

However, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has recently decided to relieve Shanto of the captaincy duties. For many, this move could be the turning point for his career. Free from the stress of leadership, Shanto now has the opportunity to focus solely on his batting and rediscover his natural rhythm.

History shows us that many great players have bounced back stronger after stepping down from leadership roles. Virat Kohli is a prime example—he flourished as a batter after leaving the captaincy. Shanto may well be on the same path. At just 26, he still has plenty of time ahead and more than enough talent to carve out a successful international career.

If he can rebuild his confidence and focus on his strengths, Shanto could once again become a key pillar of Bangladesh’s batting lineup. All he needs is the right mindset, support, and a little bit of patience.

Let’s hope that the new phase in Shanto’s journey leads him back to his best—and perhaps even beyond.
